How to Care for Your Silk Saree: A Complete Guide

A pure handloom silk saree from Avaran Handloom is a delicate heirloom that requires thoughtful care to maintain its shine, color, and fabric strength over time. Washing: Always opt for professional dry cleaning (especially for zari borders). For emergency hand-washing, use cold water and mild silk detergent—never scrub, bleach, or soak. Drying & Ironing: Air-dry in shade away from direct sunlight. Iron on low "Silk" heat using a cotton pressing cloth, and iron zari on the reverse side. Storage: Wrap sarees in breathable muslin or cotton bags (never plastic). Avoid metal hangers and keep perfume or naphthalene balls off the fabric. Maintenance: Unfold, air out, and refold your sarees along new crease lines every 3 to 4 months to prevent fabric tears along folds.
